Andy Wirth found his calling at 23 in the ski and resort industry. Since 2010 he has been the CEO of Squaw Valley Ski in the Lake Tahoe region and he was recently appointed as chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board. He continuously works towards making Squaw Valley Ski one of the top destinations for tourists.
Since Andy took over the role as CEO, the iconic Squaw Valley Ski, host of the 1960 Winter Olympics, reduced it’s environmental footprint by 15 percent and joined with near-by resort Alpine Meadows, but the biggest announcement came when Squaw Valley proposed building an entirely new village that would add a multitude of rooms and services to tourists.
And it’s an environmentally conscious proposal that plans to restore impaired waterways and would commit $1 million annually to support local environmental projects. Learn more about Andy Wirth: http://www.cbs.com/shows/undercover_boss/photos/1000242/season-4-episode-11-sqauw-valley/
Andy Wirth is loved in the community for his dedication to the environment, the community and support of the troops. He has received multiple prodigious awards for his service to the community and the environment. But it is his increased support of the troops that was born out of a traumatic life event.
In October of 2013, he was involved in a brutal sky diving accident that almost severed his arm and nearly took his life. Andy is a licensed and experienced skydiver, but due to wind conditions, couldn’t make the landing zone and instead landed in a vineyard.
A vineyard, like most, that had many sharp posts and wire connecting the posts. During recovery, and after multiple surgeries and many hours of physical therapy, he happened to meet a group of Navy SEALS at Squaw Valley.
That meeting spawned a lifelong friendship that resulted in Andy’s creation of Special Welfare Warriors. An IronMan competition team, Special Welfare Warriors has raised nearly 15 thousand dollars for the Navy SEAL Foundation.
Andy Wirth is recognized, appreciated, and loved as a ally to the environment, the community, and a visionary business leader for the industry.
